School Streets

Following on from the successful introduction of the School Street on Mansfield Road, we will be introducing a trial expansion on Devon Way. The scheme area includes Devon Way, Beverley Close, Newlands Way and part of Stormont Way (up to the road closure).

Timings and location of the School Street trial expansion

The School Street is in place from 2 May 2023 and includes Devon Way, Beverley Close, Newlands Way and part of Stormont Way (up to the road closure). There is a timed restriction on motor vehicles to create a pedestrian and cycle zone from Monday to Friday, between 8.15am - 9.15am and 2.30pm - 3.30pm (term time only), matching the timings on Mansfield Road.

This scheme is being set up as an ‘Experimental Traffic Management Order’, which can be in place for a minimum of six months and up to 18 months while we gather local feedback and monitor the scheme. We have written to all residents within the consultation area, inside and outside the scheme about the trial.

Access will not be restricted for residents’ vehicles in the scheme area, provided those vehicles are registered for exemption from the scheme.

Applying for an exemption

If you live within the scheme area and you have a vehicle that you may be using to drive into the area during the times of the restrictions, you must let us know your vehicle registration details. Please submit your details through our exemption registration form(External link). The form will ask you a series of questions and to submit documents to prove that you live at your address and own the vehicle. If you live in the school street area, you will have received a code by letter to enter when prompted.

Sharing your thoughts on the scheme

The South of the Borough Neighbourhood Committee approved the expansion to the School Street scheme in September 2022, subject to continued engagement with the local community. The consultation finished on 2 November 2023 and we are now using all the feedback provided along with data collected to prepare a report on the scheme.

Monitoring and reviewing the scheme

Once the scheme has been in place for a period of time and enough data and feedback has been gathered, we will draft a proposal for consideration at the South of the Borough Neighbourhood Committee within the next 9 months. The Committee will then make a decision on the future of the scheme. We will write to residents to let you know when we are closer to this stage.
