Closures for Burlington School works

The construction works at Burlington Junior School are ongoing as we look to deliver the highest quality education and support for young people in Kingston. To progress as swiftly as possible with the building work, the school needs to be provided with a new drainage connection. To put the connection in place, a number of closures will be needed over a period of 6 weeks from late July onwards. These closures are a section of Burlington Road from 19 August to 1 September, and the gate to Blagdon Road Open Space from 25 July to 1 September 2024.

Burlington Road

Due to the discovery of a collapsed manhole, a section of Burlington Road directly at the front of Park House needs to be fully closed during this period to enable Thames Water to rebuild the collapsed manhole prior to the new connection being made. Unfortunately a partial closure of Burlington Road during this upgrade to enable continued use of the road was not an option. Footpaths will remain open for pedestrians, and access will remain to all side roads with traffic and bus diversions in place. View maps of the closure and diversions in place.

Blagdon Park gate

In order to expand and improve the facilities at Burlington Junior School, the pathway into and out of Blagdon Park from Burlington Road has had to be closed as it leads directly onto access for the construction site, which is where all site traffic, plant and deliveries are being routed throughout the project. Health and safety during construction is crucially important, and it is therefore necessary to close the entrance/exit to the park adjacent to the school, blocking the route through the park between Burlington Road and Blagdon Road.

Following local feedback we kept access through the gate from Burlington Road into the Blagdon Road Open Space as open as possible during the construction work so far. This will no longer be possible as we need to excavate the road to create the new drainage connection, and the gate will need to be closed. The route through Jubilee Square will remain open throughout construction as it is currently.
These closures are being made to ensure compliance with Construction (Design and Management) Regulations, and to make sure that everyone stays safe while construction takes place in close proximity to the park.
