Odour Incident - Hogsmill Sewage Treatment Works
Officers have remained in regular contact with Thames Water, who today have advised that both emergency tanks have been emptied of stored sludge and cleaned to remove any residue. These were the main sources of the recent odour incident at the site. Final works are now taking place over the next few days to remove temporary pipework and pumps that were installed followed by a final clean. There remains a potential that some odour will be noticeable off-site during this last part of the work, however, it should not be prolonged or as intense as in recent weeks.
This should mark the end of this prolonged and unpleasant odour incident with the Works returning back to normal operations next week. The Council is aware of resident dissatisfaction with the communications by Thames Water to their customers over this period, and we have raised this with Thames Water to aid learning from critical incidents such as this. We understand how this incident has affected residents, recognise the frustration that has been caused and appreciate your patience.
Officers will continue to monitor the Works and remain in close contact with the Site Manager. A final update to this page will be made next week, or as necessary.
