  • Kingston's Director of Public Health thanks residents for their efforts to drive down COVID-19 infections

We must keep on doing all we can to drive down infection rates, so that we are in the very best position to benefit from these new developments as they become available.... There is plenty of capacity at our local testing sites, particularly at the weekends, so you will be able to get a test easily.... I know you have all made huge sacrifices so far,  and by continuing to play your part you are giving us all the very best chance of returning to a more normal life as soon as we can.

  • Black History Month 2021 - A message from Cllr Thay Thayalan

From the 1800s when former Senegalese slave Cesar Picton became a successful coal merchant in the borough, to the mid-20th Century when the Windrush generation first settled in the UK, enriching British culture and making significant contributions to so many communities, including our own.  ... There is still so much work to be done, and our recently released Inclusive Kingston strategy sets out how we plan to reduce inequalities across the borough.... So, this Black History Month, let’s celebrate our heritage and our present, and look at how we will improve in the future.

  • Celebrating local volunteers at the Kingston Communities Awards

The Kingston Celebrating Communities Awards was such a lovely event that really showed what makes our communities in Kingston so great.... I can’t remember seeing so many faces with genuine smiles for a very long time.... Let’s hope these awards become a tradition, so we can celebrate volunteering and great work of the local VCSE organisations more.

  • Property owners, landlords and tenants

1 to 5 years, there is a 100% premium, so you will pay twice as much as the Council Tax band charge... The premium is attached to the property, so if you buy a property that was empty for one or more years and continues to be empty while you own it, the premium will still apply.... If someone has moved into the property, so the property is not empty anymore, please let us know using our online form.

  • Kingston’s first dedicated COVID-19 vaccination site to open at Hawks Road

The coronavirus vaccines are safe and effective, and will offer people a vital defence against the virus, but we can’t be complacent, it is still so important that people continue to follow government guidance and keep their distance.... I would appeal to any residents not currently registered with a GP to do so straight away so they will be on a list for vaccination and can be contacted when their turn comes.... There are a large number of people who fall within these initial priority groups, so residents should not be concerned if they have not yet received a letter  The vaccine requires two appointments - a first dose, and a further booster after a number of weeks.
