Kingston town centre invests in happy spaces
Kingston based landscape architects Davies White Ltd and The Edible Bus Stop design studio have been appointed to lead on the engagement and design to transform two prime locations; Eagle Brewery Wharf on Kingston’s riverside and Memorial Gardens in the centre of the town into green spaces that improve the pedestrian flow around the town, encourage well-being, social and cultural activities and acknowledge their historical significance.... Well-being is more important than ever and we want to bring that feeling of happiness to the people who work, live and play in our town centre.... I am really excited that this project will transform these two spaces in the town centre into lovely, accessible places where you can sit down, relax and enjoy being outdoors.

Kingston’s response to the situation in Afghanistan
This scheme is currently in operation since being launched in April 2021, and we are already supporting one family under this scheme.... It is worth noting that Afghan families being resettled in Kingston are not classed as “refugees”, but rather are supported by the Home Office resettlement schemes mentioned above: the Afghan Relocations & Assistance Policy (ARAP), and the Afghan Citizens’ Resettlement Scheme (ACRS).... Many of the people fleeing the Taliban and being resettled in Kingston are those that supported the British military in Afghanistan, and we, therefore, have a responsibility to protect them.

Safer Kingston Partnership Plan 2024-2029
Vulnerable people are often at greater risk of being a victim of crime - targeted by criminals who exploit vulnerabilities and take advantage through financial, sexual or criminal exploitation.... As well as those with existing mental health conditions being at risk of experiencing crime, experiencing crime itself also exacerbates and can create considerable mental health challenges for individuals.... Unmet housing needs and homelessness are vulnerabilities that increase the likelihood of being a victim of certain crimes

Trading Standards team protect Kingston from rogue roofer
Rogue trader James "Jimmy" Slater, receives prison sentence after being found guilty of contempt of court... James "Jimmy" Slater, a Surbiton resident has been sentenced to 9 months in prison after being found guilty of contempt of court at the Central London County Court after breaching an enforcement order banning him from rogue trading under the Enterprise Act 2002.... Judge Lethem then went on to praise two witnesses who attended court, saying without their courage in being prepared to come to court to give evidence, to stand up for vulnerable people who are preyed upon by people like Mr Slater, justice could not be progressed.
