    The announcement of Tier 4 restrictions in Kingston and across London and much of the South East, reflects the alarming increase in cases of COVID-19 over the last few weeks.... The Tier 4 rules mean we must all stay home as much as possible.... After a tough year I had hoped that we would be able to spend time with loved ones, but now it is clear that the best we can do for our families is to keep our celebrations small, local and safe.

  • Thousands step up to get tested - thank you Kingston!

    In the 3-week period from 9 June, more than 70,000 PCR test kits were sent to our schools.... Partly driven by such events, huge numbers of residents turned out for their vaccinations: the 3 week initiative saw thousands of additional people vaccinated, including many newly-eligible younger people aged 18 to 24 keen to roll up their sleeves and get the jab.... I would like to say a huge thank you to each and every resident who came forward to get tested in Kingston.

  • Kingston Council agrees plans to lease land for two new schools in the borough

    The Corporate and Resources Committee (1 November) agreed to lease the land on the Kingsmeadow site for 125 years on a peppercorn rent basis to create a six-form entry school for 11-16 year olds, subject to planning permission.... The special free school, to be run by the education provider  Ambitious about Autism, is planned to open in September 2023, offering 90 places for 4–19 year olds.... I look forward to working closely with Ambitious about Autism to make this another outstanding local school.”

    The Mayor and Kingston Council’s Biodiversity Officer, Elliot Newton were met with smiles and wellies on Sunday (4 July) as a small group of residents joined the socially distanced event.... The Mayor of Kingston officially declared the new walkway open on Sunday (4 July) with an environmentally friendly ribbon-cutting ceremony.... I am delighted to officially declare the new Six Acre Meadow boardwalk open.

  • Kingston community grants fund 1,440 meals for families across the borough

    Forty families in the borough will be supported with a weekly BRITE (Building Resilience In Today's Environment) box during school term time for a year, providing 36 healthy meals which can feed a family of 5.... I am delighted that all four neighbourhood committees have used community grant funding to help Voices of Hope continue and expand the meaningful, important work they do.... South of the Borough Neighbourhood and Kingston Town Neighbourhood Committee both approved funding on 2 September, Maldens and Coombe Neighbourhood Committee gave the initiative the green light on 22 September and Surbiton Neighbourhood Committee granted the funding Wednesday (29 September).
