As part of its commitment to protecting biodiversity and improving the natural environment, Kingston Council asked residents to suggest where new trees should be planted in their neighbourhoods.... Over 150 people responded to the Winter Tree Planting Survey and every request for a new sapling has been fulfilled.

    The council has been working with partners across the Borough to ensure the safety of those sleeping rough during the crisis, and has developed new working relationships across health and social services to meet their support needs, both now and into the future.... This new funding for the Rough Sleeper Initiative for 2021/2022 will allow those in need to continue to receive support and somewhere to live as we emerge from the pandemic - and that includes anyone who finds themselves new to living on the streets.

    Other works undertaken around Kingston station include a new segregated pedestrian and cycle link between Kingston Station and Skerne Road, and an upgraded station forecourt with new crossings and a two-way cycle lane on Richmond Road.... This new transport hub and the surrounding works at Kingston Station is a big statement of what we hope Kingston to be with regards to greener travel - it’s a massive project for the future and gives our residents and visitors a much-needed top class facility.

We will continue to work closely with residents and our community groups to achieve this, building on the different approaches we have been trialling over the past couple of years, including introducing relaxed mowing regimes in parks, planting biobeds to increase urban pollinators, supporting the establishment of new community orchards and piloting traditional grassland grazing.”...   • Life-saving defibrillators and riverside throw ropes funded through Community Grants Programme

    Kingston’s Community Grants Programme has funded two new defibrillators to be installed in premises in Surbiton, along with 10 new throw ropes and training sessions to improve riverside safety.... The Community grants programme supports voluntary, community, and faith groups in Kingston to set up new activities or projects that benefit residents and make a difference to the local community.
