Report damage to utility company equipment

Phone, power and water companies are responsible for repairing their own street equipment. This includes poles, manhole covers, cabinets and overhead cables.

If you spot damaged street equipment,  report it to the utility company directly  so they can fix it.

Report damage to telecoms equipment

BT equipment

BT cables, poles, cabinets and manholes are looked after by Openreach. Let them know about loose cables, damaged or vandalised green cabinets, damaged manhole covers, and damaged telephone poles.

Virgin Media O2 equipment

Let Virgin Media O2 know about damaged cabinets or manhole covers.

Report damage to power equipment

Who to call if you spot damage to electricity or gas company equipment.

In an emergency

If you notice damage to an electricity substation, pylon or power line, keep away from the equipment and report the issue immediately.

  • For damage to substations: call UKPN on 0800 31 63 105.
  • For damage to overhead cables or pylons: call National Grid on 0800 40 40 90.

UK Power Networks (UKPN) equipment 

Report unsafe or leaning poles to UKPN.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) equipment

SGN equipment (gas)

Tell SGN if you think a gas pipe might be damaged.
