Canbury Gardens Masterplan
This document was endorsed at the Kingston Town Neighbourhood Committee on 23rd June 2021, as an evidence base for future funding opportunities.
Canbury Gardens design report is a masterplan. This masterplan is a non-statutory document that outlines a vision for the parks managed change over the next 15 years. This masterplan is a culmination of strategic priorities and projects that have evolved through co-development, observations, conversations and workshops with various local stakeholders.
The masterplan will support other wider public realm initiatives being brought forward by the council and seek to bring about holistic landscape and public realm improvement to both protect and enhance the park for existing and future users.
The document was developed by LDA on behalf of Kingston Council. Its content builds on earlier design and investigation work undertaken by the Council to improve the riverside, including Thames Landscape Strategy, the Kingston Riverside Supplementary Planning Document (2018) and Reimagining Kingston Town Centre Streets and Spaces Strategy (2019).
The Masterplan document should be used to inform funding bids within Canbury Gardens.
Principles and Projects
The document sets out a design rationale and includes a series of principles which underpin the masterplan. The principles reflect the key challenges and opportunities highlighted during the stakeholder engagement and aim to make the most of Canbury Gardens assets, whilst reinforcing the gardens unique heritage and qualities.
The masterplan proposes a number of projects which through the engagement process were prioritised. The projects within this strategy each support the guiding principles for Canbury Gardens.
Who is it for and how can I get involved?
Alongside the council, the report is a tool to be used by local groups and key stakeholders interested in helping raise funds and deliver projects within Canbury Gardens. The projects vary in size and cost; from small scale planting projects to large scale transformational projects including new and improved entrances.
