There are lots of steps you can take to stay safe when using computers, phones and tablets and when you use the internet. For example when you are shopping, gaming, dating or making friends, using social media and visiting websites.
If you are worried about someone you know accessing your online accounts or tracking your internet usage, you can get advice about how to maintain privacy online

Tips to stay safe online
You can:
- brush up your computer skills - Kingston Adult Education offers courses in computing, including for beginners.
- take steps to protect yourself from online fraud and cyber crime - Action Fraud gives prevention advice and you can sign up for alerts about fraud and scams in your area.
- check the tips to stay safe online from Victim Support website
- make sure all your family knows about the importance of online safety - there are age-appropriate resources available for children available through the Safer Internet Centre and ThinkuKnow. Older relatives might find Age UK information and courses useful.
- help protect your community from online and other scams - become a Friend Against Scams by completing the quick online training
- report any illegal or harmful content you see online. This includes reporting scams and online fraud, as well as reporting materials promoting terrorism or extremism and reporting child abuse or child abuse images.
Remember, if you do see any harmful content online or are the victim of a scam or cybercrime, this is nothing to be embarrassed about. It is important to report this and get any help and support you need. If you are unsure what to do, contact Citizen's Advice Bureau for advice.
