Goodbye gas, hello green energy at Fountain Court!

Residents at Fountain Court in New Malden are enjoying the benefits of a new clean, green heating system to keep them warm and cosy.
Fountain Court is a council housing scheme for older people which was heated by gas boilers at the end of their serviceable lives. The gas boilers have been replaced with an all-electric system which can keep up with Government targets for low carbon publicly owned buildings.
Three heat pumps now provide the heating and hot water via a small district heat network and 56 solar panels now provide valuable power in daylight hours.
Councillor Ian Manders, Portfolio Holder for Climate Action, Biodiversity and Planning Policy, said:
“It’s great to see another heat pump system like this up and running in Kingston. These green energy upgrades will save around 23 tonnes of climate changing carbon emissions each year, while reducing energy bills and future-proofing the buildings.
“Electricity generated by the solar panels feeds the communal electrical supply and can help to feed the National Grid with clean energy.”

Helping to tackle climate change while working toward a greener and safer borough for current and future generations is a key priority for Kingston Council and any financial savings delivered by this upgrade are also important.
