The dedication, passion and impact of Kingston Council's Social Workers

Michael and Martha

This World Social Work week, Kingston Council is celebrating the incredible work of social workers and the life-changing impact they have on people like Michael.

Michael’s Journey: A Story of Independence and Wellbeing

Michael has been supported by Adult Social Care for several years and now lives in supported accommodation that enables him to thrive. With the guidance of his Social Worker, Martha, and the wider Kingston team, he has found stability, joy, and independence.

From decorating his room with personal touches—like his treasured Rocky poster—to planning exciting trips, Michael’s life is now filled with choice and optimism. His life is now full of special moments, like visiting Kew Gardens, paying respects at his father’s grave, and enjoying a holiday in Selsey Bill.

Michael’s experience is a testament to the dedication of social workers and the meaningful relationships that empower residents to live a life they choose. He credits much of his happiness to the encouragement and support he receives from Martha and the team, expressing deep gratitude for their role in his journey.

The Passion of Our Social Workers

Social Workers across Kingston are committed to making a difference, advocating for those in need, and ensuring residents can lead fulfilling lives. They advocate for individuals, champion inclusion, and enable people to achieve their aspirations. Here’s what some of them have to say:

“It's a rewarding role because I help people and support them through their difficult times. The joy of achieving a positive outcome is awesome!”

“I am proud to be a Social Worker for different reasons. One of them is being part of a team that helps put the broken jigsaw of someone’s life back together—one piece at a time.”

“Receiving a smile at the end of an assessment, challenging discrimination, and advocating for people's right to self-determination makes this job incredibly fulfilling.”
