The Royal Borough of Kingston is gearing up for an exciting celebration of past, present and future with the launch of Kingston 2025.

As part of this landmark celebration, local residents are invited to host their own street parties to bring neighbours together and celebrate what makes the borough so special.
Kingston residents have a long history of coming together to celebrate with street parties, and 2025 promises to be no different.

Leader of Kingston Council Cllr Andreas Kirsch encourages residents saying:

“A party is a fantastic way to connect with your neighbours, bring different generations together to share in the fun. It’s free to apply for a temporary road closure to hold a street party in Kingston, making it easier than ever to create a memorable event right on your doorstep.”

With the Kingston 2025 festivities officially kicking off on Saturday 3 May, and continuing throughout the summer residents can choose the date of their street party to suit. Kingston 2025 marks the 1,100 anniversary of the crowning of King Athelstan, the first King of a united England, in the heart of Kingston. It celebrates the rich and diverse history of the borough and the vibrant communities who live, work and study here.

When your street party application is approved, you’ll receive a downloadable pack with everything you need to make your event a success, including template posters, activity suggestions, and details on how to share your photos for the chance to be included in Kingston’s archive.

While there’s no need to stick to a specific theme, Kingston borough residents may find inspiration in our local and community histories. Here are a few ideas for your street party:

  • Celebrate Kingston’s royal legacy as the original royal borough by drawing inspiration from past Coronations, Royal Jubilees, and Weddings.
  • Celebrate Kingston’s diverse and thriving communities by sharing traditional dishes from around the world and embracing Kingston’s rich cultural heritage.
  • Mark the 80th anniversaries of VE Day or VJ Day and reflect on the borough’s role as the home of the Hawker aircraft factory.

To apply for a street party road closure, complete an application form on the Kingston Council website, ensuring you have logged the support of at least 75% of local residents and businesses affected by the closure. Once your application is submitted, Kingston Council will be in touch to provide support and guidance throughout the process. Please allow up to 8 weeks for approval.
