Subsidised energy audits help local people cut home energy bills

A man wearing a green tshirt measures a window with a yellow tape measure. On the window sill is a clipboard which holds a notebook full of measurements.

Kingston Council has teamed up with CREW Energy to provide a low cost home audit to help local people understand how to cut their energy bills, and tackle climate change.

Working toward a greener future while supporting the borough through the climate and cost of living crises are key priorities for the council.

This is why Kingston Council has teamed up with CREW Energy Ltd, a Community Benefit Society that provides energy efficiency advice. This had been made possible through the award of a Voluntary Community and Enterprise Sector Green Grant from the council.

For a limited period, the council will discount the cost of home energy audits by fifty percent to help residents who take part by providing bespoke information on a wide range of measures suitable for their home - from the simple low cost measures, to the complex and more expensive.

Over a third of the climate changing emissions generated in Kingston borough come from heating and powering residents' homes, so it’s important that steps are taken to ensure that they become as energy efficient as possible as soon as possible.

Councillor Ian Manders, Portfolio Holder for Climate Action, Biodiversity and Planning Policy said:

“Each year, millions of pounds leave Kingston and end up in the pockets of energy companies. Energy inefficient buildings are a financial burden on local people and contribute to climate change.

"To help residents, Kingston Council, for a limited period, is reducing the cost of the CREW Energy audit by half”.

Toby Costin, CREW Energy Director said:

"We know that our homes, and particularly heating, make up a huge amount of the carbon emitted in our area.

"For just £150, our half-price energy audits in partnership with Kingston Council are making it simple for households to see where and how they can make small, often low-cost changes that will have a big impact on our road to net zero."

Included in the cost:

  • Behavioural change tips and tricks
  • Advice on the most cost effective measures to reduce energy bills and cut carbon
  • Introduction to new technologies
  • Suggestions to solve issues in your home
  • Advice on available funding.
