Council launches a brand new version of its website
Kingston Council has launched its new website, providing a new look and feel, improved features and faster search, as well as greater accessibility for users with visual impairments.
The new site makes it easier than ever for residents to access information and get things done. Some of the many improvements the new site offers include:
-
Introduced a new search system to make it easier and faster to find what you need
-
A more visual design that makes it easier to get to where you want
-
Removed around 50% of pages from the old site that were outdated or inactive
-
Rewrote 80% of content to make it easier to read and understand
One of the biggest improvements the new site offers is an improved online customer experience. It is now easier than ever to make some of the most common requests at a time that suits you. This includes:
-
Registering a birth
-
Reporting fly tipping
-
Applying for a Direct Debit
-
Requesting help with noise issues
The website has been designed specifically for - and in partnership with - Kingston residents. We hosted 26 events and talked to over 2,000 residents to understand how they use the website, what they think of it and what they want to be able to use it for in the future.
The new site will soon also meet the new WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standard, making it easier for more users to access local information and services.
The launch of the new site is the first step to delivering a site that works for everyone. There are more exciting updates coming throughout 2021 and beyond, and the Council will continue to work with residents to deliver improvements that make this possible.
