- The regenerated neighbourhood will be to the highest standard, benefitting existing residents and the wider community
The £800m regeneration of the Cambridge Road Estate has reached an important milestone as joint venture partners Kingston Council and Countryside submit their planning application to the local planning authority. The proposals include approximately 2,170 new safe and accessible ‘greener’ homes, new gardens, play areas, better streets and community facilities.
With the outline planning and phase 1 application submitted to the local planning authority (LPA), a six-week statutory consultation period will soon commence, allowing local residents to submit their feedback on the proposals to the LPA.
The Leader of Kingston Council, Cllr Caroline Kerr, said:
“Earlier this year, Cambridge Road Estate residents sent a resounding message of support for regeneration, with eligible residents voting overwhelmingly in favour of a comprehensive redevelopment of their estate. Since then, we have continued to listen to their views about the proposals.
“For the Council and local residents, providing high-quality homes and a bright, safe environment has been a top priority. The submission of the planning application and statutory consultation that accompanies it marks the final step before regeneration can begin next year.”
Managing Director, Partnerships West London & Thames Valley, Countryside, Daniel King, said:
“Having worked closely with residents and the Council, we are delighted to have submitted these plans for a regenerated Cambridge Road Estate. This marks an exciting major milestone for the regeneration and follows an extensive period of consultation with residents and members of the neighbouring area. We look forward to working with council officers and consultees while the application is being considered.
“We understand how important this regeneration programme is for residents and would like to thank them for the time they have given us to help shape the designs. Their input has refined the plans, which include multiple usable green spaces and community facilities, helping to create a safe and healthy neighbourhood for existing residents and the wider community to enjoy for years to come.”
