Kingston Council are working with Microsoft to promote digital inclusion and accessibility in the borough
Microsoft is on a mission. They believe that every person and every organisation should have access to the skills, knowledge and opportunity needed to thrive in this increasingly digital world.
Around the world, 2020 has emerged as one of the most challenging years in many of our lifetimes. In nine months, the world has endured multiple challenges, including a pandemic that has spurred a global economic crisis. As societies reopen, it’s apparent that the economy will not be what it was. Increasingly, one of the key steps needed to foster a safe and successful economic recovery is expanded access to the digital skills needed to fill new jobs.
Giving people the chance to learn digital skills is not only important to improving the long-term employability of the UK workforce, but it also gives companies access to a more diverse talent pool, which will help drive business and economic growth.
To help address this Microsoft has launched their digital skills initiative aimed at bringing more digital skills to communities and businesses worldwide.

Employability in Kingston Borough
Working with Microsoft is just one of a number of initiatives Kingston Council is currently progressing to support the economic sectors that contribute to the borough's economic productivity, and mitigate high rates of unemployment and low trade caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, through meaningful interventions and actions. On 28 May 2020 the council’s Response & Recovery Committee supported the establishment of a new ‘Economic Recovery Task Force’ as part of the emergency response to adverse impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, which focuses on COVID-19 business recovery and support measures, skills and employment support initiatives as well as targeted mitigation/investment for recovery.
