The Mayor of Kingston Council sends a letter of condolence to Her Majesty, The Queen

Following the news on Friday 9 April of the passing of HRH The Prince Philip, The Mayor of Kingston Cllr Margaret Thompson has written a letter of condolence to Her Majesty, The Queen.

The letter expresses her deep sadness on behalf of the people of Kingston upon Thames. It reads:

Your Majesty,

It is with great sadness that the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames has received the news of the death of His Royal Highness the Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. On behalf of the local authority, and the people of Kingston, our thoughts are with Your Majesty and the Royal Family as they grieve for their husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

His Royal Highness demonstrated extraordinary dedication and commitment to his duty and his country, serving in the Royal Navy with distinction throughout the Second World War and standing by Your Majesty through decades of great change. Public service was always at his core.

This is a time of shared public grief, during which people across the nation, from all communities and backgrounds, are joining together to mourn His Royal Highness. He was a steadfast figure, much admired for his strength and resilience, and held in gratitude and affection.

A Book of Condolence has been opened for the people of the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames to express their grief and gratitude to His Royal Highness, and to share their memories of him. This will be preserved as part of the Royal Borough’s treasured archive.

Yours sincerely
