Who is an unpaid carer
Your responsibilities as a carer
As a carer, you’ve got a responsibility to:
- promote and maintain the welfare of the person you care for
- protect the person you care for from harm and abuse. This includes reporting any suspicions of neglect or exploitation to Kingston
- raise concerns to Kingston if you see that the person you care for is not receiving the quality of care provided by others
You also have a responsibility to look after your emotional and physical wellbeing, for example taking breaks from caring, managing stress and going to the GP when you need to.
Contact Kingston Carers Network if you have any questions or concerns about your caring rights and responsibilities.
If you’re working, you have also got legal rights that protect you from discrimination and help you care for someone.
