Supporting our Armed Forces Community
Supporting our Armed Forces Community
The Council has signed the Armed Forces Covenant, which represents a promise by the nation that members of the armed forces will be treated with fairness and respect in the communities, economy and society they serve or have served.
At a local level, it is a partnership agreement between statutory, military and voluntary sector agencies who pledge to work together to honour and implement the national Armed Forces Covenant. Principally, partners agree to ensure that members of the armed forces, and their families, have equal access to the same services and opportunities as ordinary citizens.
Support for the Armed Forces Community
Two of the main national support organisations for the Armed Forces Community are Veterans UK and the Royal British Legion. Veterans Gateway also support the Armed Forces Community to find the right support in the UK.
Veterans UK
Veterans UK is part of the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and was created to help ex-service personnel get appropriate support from government, local authorities, independent bodies and the charity sector.
