Free to be Me

Free to be me

This year, South Asian Heritage Month’s theme is “Free to Be Me,” and we’re excited to join and celebrate the beauty of simply being yourself.

The stories and heritage connect us all in profound ways, and there are countless ways to share them. Whether you express yourself through art, writing, music, fashion, or food, your heritage is worth celebrating. SAHM is a perfect opportunity to explore the diverse ways our residents of South Asian heritage can honour their roots and individuality.

Explore some of the themes that resonate with the South Asian community and embody the spirit of “Free to Be Me”:

Identity: Who are you, and what makes you unique?

Community: How do we support and uplift each other?

Gender: What does gender mean in your cultural context?

Faith: How does your faith shape your life?

Family: What role does family play in your story?

Life Choices: How have your life choices been shaped by your South Asian heritage?

Positive Impacts: What positive impact has your South Asian background had on your life in the UK?

Please share your stories on social media, and don’t forget to tag us on Instagram at @kingston_council and X at @RBKingston.
