Kingston Sustainable Events Guidance
Climate Pledge
In declaring a Climate Emergency in 2019, Kingston Council committed to take decisive action to reduce carbon emissions in all activity that we control. We will aim to be carbon neutral in operations by the challenging target of 2030, and to widen our actions to help move our borough to carbon neutrality by 2038.
We have a key role to play as an influencer within Kingston, however, we cannot do this alone. Addressing climate change is everyone's responsibility.
As a condition for the use of public space and land for events and festivals the Council requires all event organisers to sign up to this climate emergency pledge, and demonstrate how they plan to reduce carbon emissions at their event and festivals.
Please see the pledge below:
I/We the event organiser for (add event name & date & location) pledge our commitment to the climate emergency and to reducing carbon emissions at this and future events by undertaking the actions listed below:
- I will inform myself of the basics of climate change, sustainability in relation to events, and the need to reduce emissions, and ensure all my staff have similar understanding
- I will focus on reducing emissions from running my event focusing on the main carbon intensive areas - transport, energy use and waste
- I will work with providers and contractors who are committed to sustainability, and will work to empower event attendees to be sustainable when participating in the event
- I will assess my event using a self-assessment tool (LINK) provided by RBK at the initial stages of planning, and use it to make all practicable improvements
- I will read the guidance provided by RBK (LINK) to better understand and implement available solutions
- I will clearly communicate my efforts in sustainability to staff, visitors, contractors etc.
All of the above will be reflected within my event management plan submitted to the Council.
