Public space CCTV

CCTV and community safety

The Public Space CCTV system is owned and operated by Kingston Council, in partnership with Engie and the Metropolitan Police.

We use the CCTV system to:

  • deter anti-social behaviour
  • disrupt and prevent street crime
  • gather evidence for court proceedings
  • identify persons wanted by the police
  • emergency planning

Engie, our CCTV service provider, operates a 24-hour CCTV control centre, which monitors and records images from CCTV systems in streets, off-street car parks and housing estates within the borough. These activities are carried out in accordance with Data Protection Act 1998, Freedom of Information Act 2000 and in compliance with the Information Commissioner’s Office CCTV Code of Practice and Kingston Council and Met Police CCTV code of practice.
