The Big Tech Mop Up

Donate your unwanted smart devices to reduce e-waste and to help raise funds for The Mayor’s Charitable Trust!

The Mayor's Charitable Trust is once again teaming up with international recovery, recycling and reuse experts ReLove Technology (previously Genuine Solutions) for the Big Tech Mop Up.

We are inviting people to hand over unwanted tech to be reused or recycled. Profits from the drive will again go towards the Mayor’s Charitable Trust, this year supporting Habitats and Heritage. We are calling for donations from 22 January to 28 February 2025.

Who is involved?

The Mayor's Charitable Trust and Kingston Council are working together with local e-waste recycling company ReLove Technology on the project. You can find out more about ReLove Technology here.

What can I donate?

This year, we are calling for donations of unwanted or unused mobile phones, laptops, tablets, smart watches, cables and mobile accessories.

What will happen to my devices?

Devices will be data-wiped, cleaned and recycled in an environmentally-friendly way, ready to be used again as a new handset, or stripped for parts depending on the condition.

How can I get involved?

You can hand in your unwanted or unused tech at your most convenient collection point throughout the borough. If you are part of a business, you should get in touch with ReLove Technology directly. Scroll to the bottom of this page to find out how to do this.

I want to hand in my mobile phone. Do I need to take out the SIM card?

Yes, make sure you take out the SIM card before you hand over your old phone as we are unable to return them.

What if I can’t donate my phone, laptop or tablet during this appeal period (22 Jan to 28 Feb 2025)?

We are planning to hold a Spring Clean collection period in April 2025. You can get more information on this by emailing mayors.office@kingston.gov.uk

I am part of a business. Can I get involved?

Businesses wanting to donate equipment should contact ReLove Technology Ltd directly, via dhillon.g@relovetechnology.com to arrange for a business collection.

For a step by step guide on how to donate your device, please watch this video.

Come along to an in-person Drop In Session at Old Malden Library on Saturday 15 February between 10am and 1pm.

Staff from ReLove Technology will be on hand to help show you how you can securely data wipe your device/s before donating it to this appeal.

You will of course need to satisfy yourself that any data-holding devices are managed safely.  By all means work through any other organisation you trust - ensuring they at least match the stringent standards that ReLove Technology adhere to.

Disclaimer: It is your responsibility to be aware of how your device and its data will be managed, once donated for recycling or disposal.  Before donating your devices, please ensure that you are satisfied with how this will be managed by the recipient.  You can find out more about Relove Technology here.
