Your Mayor and Deputy Mayor

Our Mayor is the figurehead of the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames. The Mayor is elected at the Annual Council Meeting in May and serves for one year. The Mayor (and Deputy Mayor) are members of the Council.

The Mayor’s duties include representing the Council on public occasions, such as Remembrance Day services and chairing meetings of the Council. The Mayor also attends civic functions including citizenship ceremonies.

The current Mayor is Councillor Liz Green. 

Councillor Liz Green was appointed 190th mayor of the Royal Borough of Kingston at Annual Council on 16 May. 

First moving to Surbiton in 1998, Councillor Green has lived in the borough and been a councillor for over 20 years. 

She has proudly represented St Mark’s ward (now St Mark’s and Seething Wells) for the duration of her time as a council member and has held many and varied positions in her career. Including Leader of the Council (2013 - 2014 and 2018-2020), Deputy Leader and Leader of the Opposition. She has also most recently been Chair of Audit, Governance and Standards and Chair of the Planning Committee.

As is customary, the Mayor has chosen to support a charity for her mayoral year. This year's charity is Habitats & Heritage.

Deputy Mayor 

Biography of the Deputy Mayor
Councillor Elizabeth Park was elected as councillor for the Old Malden ward in May 2022. She has lived in Kingston for over 23 years and is currently working as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner at the mental health community service. She has done various volunteer works with organisations such as Mind in Kingston and New Malden Rotary Club. Councillor Park is also working with diversity and equality projects and works closely with the Korean community in the borough. 

About the Office of Deputy Mayor
The Deputy Mayor, when deputising, should be treated as the Mayor would be treated. The Deputy Mayor will normally deputise for the Mayor when the Mayor is away from the Royal Borough, ill, or when there is a clash of functions and it is desirable for the Royal Borough to be represented at both. The Deputy Mayor may also appoint a Deputy Mayoress or Escort to accompany them on official engagements.
