Preventing falls and maintaining bone health

Better Bones service

Help for those at risk of osteoporosis

If you are over 50 and have been diagnosed with osteoporosis, or are at risk of osteoporosis, you could benefit from our free 12 week Better Bones service.

The Better Bones Service is a 12 week exercise and education programme designed to improve your bone health and reduce your risk of fragility fractures in the future.

At the weekly exercise classes you will learn the types of activity that will help strengthen your bones. You will also be invited to education sessions on lifestyle, medication and nutrition.

The classes will give you an opportunity to make new friends and are designed to be fun. The courses take place in community venues around Kingston.

How do I join?

Just phone us and we'll go though a brief questionnaire to see if the service is right for you. We'll ask if you:

  • have a diagnosis of osteopenia or osteoporosis
  • have had a previous ‘low trauma’ fracture
  • had an early menopause (before 45)
  • have rheumatoid arthritis
  • regularly take oral steroids
  • smoke or consume more than 3 units of alcohol per day
You are likely to be eligible for the Better Bones service if any of these apply to you.

(There are other factors which increase your risk of fragile bones and fractures which are not listed here.)
