Kingston to Kingston Vale

A public consultation took place between 17 October and 17 November 2016 on our initial proposals for the Kingston to Kingston Vale route. The aim of the consultation was to get feedback and insight on the initial design concepts. The consultation leaflet was available online and posted to 6,486 households. 693 people took the time to feedback their views. Of those who responded 57 per cent were in favour of the overall scheme proposals and 37 per cent were opposed.

The designs have been created to overcome existing issues along the route including:

• Disconnected walking and cycling facilities which make it difficult to use the corridor on foot and by bicycle
• Outdated public space
• Access to bus stops is difficult
• Poor quality cycle lanes
• Variable standards of crossing points for pedestrians and cyclists

The improvements outlined include:

• Providing safer routes for cyclists by separating them from motor traffic 
• Providing safer crossing points for pedestrians and cyclists
• Improving walking and cycling connections
• Potential modal shift and health benefits by encouraging more people to walk and cycle, and reducing demand for motor vehicle trips
• Public space improvements
