Following the very successful historical walking tours of Surbiton and Kingston, guided by, our Mayoral Attendant, Brian Sullivan, The Mayor, Councillor Liz Green, is very excited to invite local heritage enthusiasts to join her for a “Heritage Bus Tour” taking place on Sunday 11th May.

This is an unique opportunity for those interested in Kingston’s heritage to tour the borough on an old routemaster bus, whilst enjoying an enlightening commentary on the various sites of interest along the route, supplied by Brian and former chair of Kingston Tour Guides and Kingston’s current Tipstaff & Town Crier, Mike Seigel.

The tour will include two stops - one at St Mary the Virgin Church, Chessington, which has recently celebrated its 850th anniversary and the other at the Coombe Conduit, housing the site from which spring water was pumped in Tudor times, to supply Hampton Court Place.

On the day

Guest registration will be between 1.15pm-1.30pm outside at the main Guildhall. This will also be the finishing point for the bus tour, after which guests will have the opportunity to walk across the Market Place to All Saints Church and view some of the beautiful tapestries commissioned to celebrate the seven saxon kings believed to have been crowned in Kingston, whilst enjoying a hot drink and cake (included in the ticket price) at All Saints Cafe. The tour will finish at 5pm.

Tickets

Tickets for the tour will be priced at £25 per person*, with all profits going to The Mayor's Charitable Trust, in support of Habitats & Heritage.  This event had been kindly sponsored by Countryside Partnerships.

*Regretfully, due to the design of the old routemaster bus and the buildings at both stopping points - where there are a number of steep steps, some without handrail support - this tour may not be suitable for those with limited mobility.
