Introduction to the course

Deepen your understanding of mental health and mental wellbeing.

This online course is designed for:

- those thinking about working or already working in health or social care
- those with an interest in mental health

What will I learn?

You will cover a range of topics including:

- What mental health and wellbeing is
- How legislation surrounding mental health has changed up until the present day
- The causes, consequences, and treatment of mental health problems
- The social, legal, and financial factors which can impact mental health
- Working in the mental health sector (including duty of care, confidentiality, and safeguarding)

You will produce a portfolio of work over the duration of the course in order to achieve the qualification.

Please note that themes of a sensitive nature may be discussed throughout this course.

What are the entry requirements?

- You must be aged 19 or over (as at 31st August 2024) and be a UK resident.
- You will need a sufficient level of English to be able to follow the curriculum and complete any course work.
- Please also be sure you have enough time each week to attend all classes and to complete any homework assignments outside of class.
- As this is an online course, you will need some basic digital skills in order to access the online lessons.

- If you live within Greater London, you will need to have the right to live in the UK for at least 12 months from the start date of the course.
- If you live outside of the Greater London area, you will need to have lived in the UK for the past three years and also have the right to live in the UK for the duration of your course.

What do I need to bring with me to class?

Please bring a pen, note paper or note book, and a folder to store any handouts.
This course has some elements delivered online, so you will need access to a computer or laptop and an internet connection. (Please note that a smartphone or tablet will not be suitable)
If you do not have the necessary IT equipment, you can still apply for the course as there may be opportunity for equipment loan depending on your personal circumstances.

What can I do after my course has finished?

This course opens up routes into various job roles including:

- Healthcare Support Worker or Adult Social Care Worker

- You can work in roles that focus on promoting mental and emotional wellbeing. This could include: schools, private businesses, adult education centres, charities, community organisations, and voluntary organisations.

You could also supplement your knowledge and skills by taking our Counselling Skills Level 2 Certificate course.
