Introduction to the course

Our ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) courses are for learners whose first language is not English and are living in the UK. If you are living in the UK and wish to improve your English, our ESOL courses can help. Our ESOL courses provide learners with the English language and life skills needed to gain employment, move on to further education, or become more involved in the community. At Kingston Adult Education, ESOL courses are available from beginner (Pre-Entry) to advanced (Level 2). We also provide the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification from ESB (English Speaking Board) in writing, reading, and speaking and listening.

What will I learn?

You will: improve your reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills each week; learn natural language needed for work, education, and life in the UK; learn grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary at your level; have many opportunities to use English to communicate in class; be supported to prepare for any ESOL exams as agreed with your tutor.

What are the entry requirements?

There are no specific entry requirements, but you must be living in the UK and wish to improve your English language skills. You must also be willing to attend regularly and complete homework assignments outside of class.

What do I need to bring with me to class?

Pen, paper and a folder to store your work. This is a hybrid course with some sessions delivered online so you will need access to a computer, laptop or tablet and an internet connection. If you do not have the necessary IT equipment you can still apply for the course as there may be opportunity for equipment loan, depending on personal circumstances

What can I do after my course has finished?

We offer courses from beginner to advanced, so most learners can continue to the next ESOL level. For learners who complete all the ESOL levels, we offer the opportunity to move up to learning Functional Skills English qualifications.
