Introduction to the course

This course is designed to help you continue to develop your skills with computers and smartphones.

What will I learn?

On this course you will cover basic digital skills for everyday life using computers and smartphones. You will have plenty of chances to practise each skill.

This course follows on from our 'First Steps in Basic Digital Skills' course. You will cover a variety of essential digital skills including:

Using the internet: Using Government websites/ search / online payments

Managing your files and folders: creating folders and sub folders, moving, copying, deleting.

Working with text and images

Keeping you safe: saving bank details / passwords/ spotting fake websites and other risks

What are the entry requirements?

You must be aged 19 or over (as at 31st August 2024) and be a UK resident.

You will need a sufficient level of English to be able to follow the curriculum and complete any course work.

Please also be sure you have enough time each week to attend all classes and to complete any homework assignments outside of class.

If you live within Greater London, you will need to have the right to live in the UK for at least 12 months from the start date of the course.

If you live outside of the Greater London area, you will need to have lived in the UK for the past three years and also have the right to live in the UK for the duration of your course.

What do I need to bring with me to class?

Please bring a pen, note paper or note book, and a folder to store any handouts.

You do not need to have your own digital devices as these will be provided for you to use while you are on the course. However, if you have your own smartphone, you may like to bring it so that you can practise with it during the classes.

What can I do after my course has finished?

You can progress onto our 'Essential Digital Skills Entry 3 Qualification' course
