Introduction to the course

The aim of this qualification is to prepare you to become early years educators, which will enable you to
work with children from birth to 5 years and gain knowledge of children aged 5 to 7 years. Upon achievement of this qualification, it is intended that you will be able to enter the workforce as
an early years educator.

What will I learn?

This qualification aims to:
• focus on the study of early years education
• offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge
• provide opportunities to acquire a number of practical and technical skills
The objectives of this qualification are to:
• confirm occupational competence and/or ‘licence to practice’
• confirm competence in an occupational role to the standard required

What are the entry requirements?

You must be aged 19 or over (as at 31st August 2024) and be a UK resident.

You will need a sufficient level of English to be able to follow the curriculum and complete any course work.

You must have or a qualification in Maths and English at Level 2 such as Functional Skills or a CSE Maths and English (C/4 or above). If you do not hold these qualifications, please contact us as we provide these courses.

You will need to be working, volunteering, or on practical placement at a childcare setting alongside studying on this course.

Please also be sure you have enough time each week to attend all classes and to complete any homework assignments outside of class.

If you live within Greater London, you will need to have the right to live in the UK for at least 12 months from the start date of the course.

If you live outside of the Greater London area, you will need to have lived in the UK for the past three years and also have the right to live in the UK for the duration of your course.

What do I need to bring with me to class?

Please bring a pen, note paper or note book, and a folder to store any handouts.

This course has some elements delivered online, so you will need access to a computer or laptop and an internet connection. (Please note that a smartphone or tablet will not be suitable)

If you do not have the necessary IT equipment, you can still apply for the course as there may be opportunity for equipment loan depending on your personal circumstances.

What can I do after my course has finished?

Once who have achieved this qualification you could progress to the following:
• employment:
o educator in day nurseries
o educator in nursery schools
o educator in reception classes in primary schools
o pre-school worker
• further education:
o NCFE CACHE Level 5 Diploma for the Early Years Senior Practitioner
• higher education – personal statements may be accepted by universities
