Council Tax Refunds
Find out how to claim a refund on overpaid council tax.
How do we process the refund
If your latest Council Tax notice shows you have overpaid and there is a credit on your account then the refund process will depend on how you paid your Council Tax.
Direct Debit payments
We will refund the credit to the bank account your direct debit was collected from. You do not need to do anything.
Debit or credit card payments
If the card payment was made within the last 18 months we will refund directly back to the card used to make that payment. You do not need to do anything.
Any other method of payment
We will send you a letter asking for bank details to use for the refund. Everyone listed on the Council Tax bill must sign the form before it is returned to us.
Further information
If there are any changes to your account including Council Tax Reduction, you may not be entitled to a refund.
If you owe Council Tax either at your current property or another property in our borough, we will consider using this overpayment to settle this amount and only refund the difference.
