Take steps to prepare for climate change

Saving energy

Over a third of climate changing emissions generated in Kingston come from heating and powering our homes. There are lots of simple changes people can take at home to cut their energy use and save money at the same time!

This information was provided by the Energy Saving Trust in January 2024 and details the savings you could make over a year.

  • £55 by switching appliances off at the wall instead of leaving them on standby
  • £95 by draught-proofing gaps
  • £25 by turning off lights when you leave a room
  • £29 by washing at 30 degrees and reducing the washing machine use by one run a week
  • £60 by avoiding using the tumble dryer
  • £70 by keeping showers to four minutes or less
  • £11 by swapping one bath a week to a four minute shower
  • £36 by only boiling the water you need and fitting a tap aerator
  • £14 by reducing your dishwasher use by one run a week
  • £50 by insulating your hot water cylinder.

More people than ever are considering making larger changes to their homes like adding insulation, choosing renewable energy sources like solar panels and investing in heat pumps.
