About Kingston Green Business Challenge
Kingston Council invites micro and small businesses, which are based in Kingston upon Thames to apply to a pilot project, which offers free environmental audits and funding for environmental improvements.
The aim of the project is to help these businesses reduce their environmental impact while saving resources, reducing costs and becoming more sustainable. In addition, businesses will be accredited and receive a Green Mark Certificate, which will allow them to demonstrate their commitment to the environment.
Total project budget: £30,000
Number of businesses to be supported: 15
Funding per business: up to £2,000
The funding will help businesses to implement the actions they have prioritised in order to reduce the negative impact of their activities on the environment and achieve a Green Mark Certificate.
Businesses applying for funding, should address at least one of the following objectives:
Improving resource efficiencies through:
- Reduction of energy consumption
- Reduction of water consumption
- Reduction of resources used
- Reduction of waste, increased Re-use, composting,
- Improving biodiversity
- Improving air quality
- Decarbonising transport/a change in modes of transport

Who can apply
- You can apply to join the pilot scheme and potentially receive funding if your business:
- is established and has been trading for at least 18 months, under private ownership
- is solvent and stable - not at risk of closure
- is an independent business based in Kingston upon Thames
- employs 2 to 49 people
- have an annual turnover over £100,000
- has rights to make improvements to its premises
The scale of the funding would be directly related to the positive environmental impact of the changes implemented by your business.
