How can I help tackle climate change?

What we eat

What we eat has a big impact on the environment and on climate change - a study from Oxford University estimated there would be a 49% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from food production if we all went vegan.

However, if you’re not prepared to take that step you can still drastically reduce your carbon footprint by choosing to limit your meat consumption - there are loads of great websites with vegetarian or vegan recipes available online which will help with meal ideas.

When food shopping, try to choose fruit and vegetables which are in season and grown locally. These items will likely have less impact on the environment as they will have travelled fewer miles to get to the shop. Also, try to buy food with minimal packaging - it all adds up.

Although Kingston residents are among the best recyclers in London, we need your help to reduce food waste across the borough.
