New Government regulations: Simpler Recycling

The Government is introducing a new set of regulations to help make recycling easier and consistent across the country.

From 31 March 2025 all businesses and other non-household premises with 10 or more full-time employees must have the following containers for their waste:

  • Residual (non-recyclable) waste
  • Food waste
  • Paper and card
  • Mixed dry recyclables (plastic, metal and glass)

Businesses and non-household premises may be able to co-collect paper and card with mixed dry recyclables under certain conditions. Please discuss this with your waste collector.

These changes are part of new Government legislation known as ‘Simpler Recycling’. Please ensure you are ready by talking to your waste collector about ‘Simpler Recycling’ as soon as possible.

Note: this also applies if you have 10 or more full-time employees spread across multiple premises, and also applies to schools and hospitals.

Businesses and other non-household premises with fewer than 10 employees have until 31 March 2027 to prepare for the changes. All businesses and other non-household premises will also have to collect plastic film for recycling by 31st March 2027.
