Request a copy of a Building Regulations document
You can request a copy of documents relating to a registered Building Control application submitted in your name. You’ll need to provide the appropriate formal, written consent.
Who can request information
Building Control records are not public, and there is no public right to view or obtain information submitted under the Building Regulations.
If you are the owner of a property (or a solicitor acting in the sale of the property), you can request to view plans or obtain a copy of a completion certificate or decision notice.
However, the current owner of a property does not have an automatic right to details of Building Regulations submitted by a previous owner of the property. You’ll need written consent from the previous owner to be treated the same way as them and get access the same information.
What happens next
We’ll check to see whether the document is available and contact you within 15 days to let you know.
If we can provide you with a copy, we’ll email you a link to our online payment form. Once we’ve received payment, we’ll email you a PDF copy of the document.
