Housing

Finding private rented accommodation

Start looking for new housing as soon as possible.

Finding accommodation

Properties in Kingston are very expensive to rent so it might be best to look in other areas of the UK where the rent is cheaper.

Look for properties online:

Make sure you check these sites regularly, as they update frequently.

Searching for housing is a long process for everyone but it is important that you keep looking and don't give up.

Look out for words like "DSS enquiries welcome", "All applications considered" or "All enquiries welcome" as this means the landlord will likely accept people on benefits.

Request a viewing

Do not rent an apartment without viewing it and do not transfer a deposit until you have seen the apartment in person.

When you call the agency, tell them how many people are in your family, briefly what you do and where you work and when you are ready to move in.

Budgeting

If you are not sure what accommodation you can afford it is useful to do a budget and benefit calculation.

Ask RAK or the Resettlement Team for support in doing this.
