Back to School - Five top things to do and check

It's Back to School and here is our top 5 things to check out and do.

Back to School 2024 - 5 Top Tips

1. Cycling to School?

Whether your child already cycles to school or is set to venture out on their bike for the first time, take a look at the upcoming Dr Bike sessions across the borough. They’ll help make sure your bikes are in tip-top condition and safe to ride.

There are seven upcoming Dr Bike sessions in September across the borough and Police security marking for bikes (making them 80% less likely to be stolen). Find out more on our website.

2. Public Transport

To find out how to get your 11-15 ZIP Oyster Card go to https://tfl.gov.uk/fares/free-and-discounted-travel/11-15-zip-oyster-photocard

3. School Uniform Swapping / Book Exchanges / Free School Meals

Be smart - ask your school if they have a scheme for pre-loved school uniforms or text book swaps.

Most schools have a second hand uniform collection: check your school newsletter for any details.

Free School Meals
The Mayor of London is continuing to fund free school meals for every London state primary school pupil. There is more information on the Mayor’s London Assembly website

You can also get more information and check eligibility for other pupils on our website

4. Protect your children - get the right immunisations/boosters

Whether your children are entering nursery or school for the first time or going to college or university, make sure they are protected - it’s easy to check what’s needed - go to the NHS Vaccines and When to Have them page then contact your GP.

5. For infants and pre-school
