The council understands that retrofitting can be complex with a lot of information online. Below is some trusted advice to help homeowners make informed decisions. 

Ecofurb

To help assess the energy efficiency of your home, identify works and can help with quotations from accredited contracts, you can access the Whole House Plan web tool called Ecofurb

This tool  can be used for free to prepare an indicative whole house plan. It allows you to compare measures to create a cost estimate for retrofitting your home. 

Government Advice

The Government has created a website to help people make energy improvements to save energy in their home. This website provides recommendations for home improvements that could make your property. This website also provides details of a phone line to call for advice to help find ways to save energy in your home. 

Historic Buildings

If you have an older home, you can visit Historic England's website for technical advice and guidance on retrofitting historic buildings to improve their energy efficiency. 

Energy Saving Trust

The Energy Saving Trust is an independent organisation working towards tackling climate change by helping householders make better energy choices.

Heat Pumps

If you'd like to see a heat pump in action, head over to the Visit a Heatpump website and see what's available near you.

Get a Heat Pump has been developed by Nesta and The MCS Foundation to address the need for reliable and impartial information about heat pumps and the future of home heating. 

It is free to use and offers completely independent guidance. On it you’ll find information, tools and guidance to help you learn about heat pumps, choose the right type, estimate costs, understand the installation process, and more.

Solar Panels

If you are interested in solar panels, visit the Energy Saving Trust's solar webpage or the Mayor of London's solar map to find out how much energy you could generate. We recommend that you choose a solar panel installer that is MCS certified.

TrustMark

To make sure retrofit works are carried out by competent, skilled tradespeople TrustMark offers an overview of local providers and registered businesses. TrustMark is the Government Endorsed Quality Scheme that covers work a consumer chooses to have carried out in or around their home.
